The Contenders - Series 7 Marathon

As I was introduced to this movie by one James G.H. Bray it seemed fitting to make it my first review on The Atomic Edge.

The Contenders Series 7 Marathon follows a fictional and somewhat far fetched reality television show in which 6 people are chosen at random from a specific Town in the US to appear in the show.  This might sound like a golden opportunity for every budding Paris or Nicole until you learn that the only way to win the show is to KILL all of the other Contenders in a real life last man standing affair.  Told you it was far fetched.

It’s a fairly fast paced affair shot in the classic reality TV fashion with emotional music and cuts aplenty.  In fact The Contenders does such a good job of it’s TV style presentation there are points at which you forget it’s a film, until someone gets beaten to death that is.

I’d really recommend this film if your not easily offended, and if you can find a copy.

Google Chrome

So the beta release of Google Chrome has hit the internet with a bang, and I for one love it. Google are hinting that it is going to take on internet explorer for dominance over the browser market, but I see only one victim here, Firefox.

Anyone who knows enough about computers to go for a browser other than the default (IE or Safari) are going to go for the best option out there. Up until now, that was Firefox, but now, its Chrome.

I will be putting Chrome through its paces over the next few weeks and will post back if I have any more insight.

Singer’s Superman Scrapped!

Empire news posted this on Friday http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=23119

I for one loved Superman Returns it was so epic and has a sence of history, the way it relates to Richard Donner’s Superman was so classic. From the Soaring opening credits to some killer action that showed just how powerfull Superman is! Singer claimed the second film would be the like the Wrath of Kahn was to Star Trek the motion picture, come on people it would rock! So yeah, quite sad to hear this, Singers X2 was one of the best comic book movies ever made so his Superman 2 would have been great.

Poor Supes hopefully Singer can turn it around. How ever if not get Mark Miller to write the script and make Lex as insanely clever as he should be. Millers Red Son was the best Superman Comic I have ever read so that’s the only person I would hire.

Update! Miller has been asked my a mystery director for his epic 3 part Superman script, Aint It Cool News Reports! WooHoo!

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

The first Hellboy movie is one of my all time top films, i quite simply love it. Its odd has evil Nazis and monsters so ticks a lot of the things i like, but i did not love it at first. With Hellboy the more i watched it on DVD, the more and more i enjoyed it, in fact its one of my most watched films on DVD joining the elite ranks of films i watch every year with out fail (very geeky i know).

So After seeing the greatest comic book movie of the year (if ever) a few weeks before, yes its The Dark Knight (review please Edge!) i was a bit afraid it would not cut the mustard! I’m happy, glad and thankfull to say that Guillermo Del Toro has not let me down. Like Pans its a fantastic fantasy film with more monsters, trolls and demons then you can shake a silver cross at!

Hellboy played expertly by Perlman is back, strong as ever along with Abe and Lizz and the B.P.R.D. The Masterstroke is the arrival of  Johann Kraus the German ectoplasmic ghost trapped in his 40’s style diving suit. Its great fun watching the ever explosive Hellboy challenge him. Also keep an eye out for the Angel of Death who’s as freaky as Pans Paleman, Love it!

The film it’s self looks so good i could eat it up!!! The sets and the creatures just leap out at you, its a real treat! The story is also great and makes Hellboy ask him self some questions about his role in our world and has great villains and action scenes as well as some nice moments on the bonds this team has. It may not have the evil Nazis but its dam good and i think will get a hell of alot better when i watch it again on Blueray.

Blogging from the iPhone

So wordpress, the company that makes the software that powers this blog, has just released an iPhone app that you can use to post to your blog (which I am doing right now).

So pretty much this is a test message so that I can see how this works. Anyway, I am half way through a Dark Knight review which I will put up in the next couple of days, so look out for that.
